Gov. Mike DeWine announced on Tuesday that child care providers in Ohio may return to their normal class sizes beginning on August 9.

DeWine said the providers will have the choice to return to those previous ratios or they can maintain their current lower ratios and get a subsidy.

"When child care reopened, I vowed to monitor the data and make adjustments as needed," DeWine said. "We will continue to closely monitor reports of COVID in child care, as well as compliance with rules and best practices, and respond as needed to keep our children, families, and teachers safe."

DeWine ordered for most child care centers to close on March 26. Certain ones were permitted to stay open for families of essential workers.
